During the Resilience Lab at COP26, Stephen Reicher, Professor of Psychology, at the University of St Andrews, said we must “challenge consumerist definitions of human value”.
The consumerist mindset, he says, is incompatible with living in harmony with nature, and each other, because it puts us in competition, one against the other. It has led us to believe we can dominate nature, yet Professor Reicher insists we must “live with nature, adapt, and move with the rhythms and seasons” if we want to achieve a desirable future.
