A Word of Introduction

A warm welcome to the fourth edition of LEAP, our evolving channel for exploring the transformative pathways toward a resilient future. Each issue of LEAP shines a light on one of the eight Resilience Frontiers pathways.

In this edition, we explore Pathway 3: Universal and Equitable Access to and Stewardship of Big Data and Frontier Technologies—a vision of a future where knowledge, insight, and innovation are shared resources that help all life thrive.

Imagine a world where anyone, anywhere, can draw upon the collective intelligence of humanity to make better decisions for their communities and ecosystems. Where artificial intelligence, Earth observation systems, digital twins, and vast networks of data expand our awareness of the living world, helping us anticipate change, regenerate natural systems, and steward resources with greater wisdom and care.

In this future, technology is not something separate from society or nature. It is woven into the fabric of everyday life, deepening trust, expanding opportunity, and strengthening our connection to one another and to the planet we call home. Access to knowledge is universal, innovation is collaborative, and stewardship is shared.

The stories in this edition offer glimpses of this future already taking shape. They reveal how frontier technologies can illuminate hidden possibilities, unlock collective creativity, and help us navigate complexity with greater confidence and purpose. Above all, they remind us that our greatest innovations are those that bring us closer—to each other, to nature, and to the futures we aspire to create.

Thank you to all the contributors whose insights bring this pathway to life. May these stories inspire us to imagine boldly and act collectively, as we shape a future where human ingenuity and planetary wellbeing flourish side by side.
